The Borealis Centre is a leading international research organisation for the non-profit sector focusing on environmental impacts through the chain of production, as well as financial and political mechanisms.
The Borealis Centre provides research and related services to NGOs, with emphasis on unique trade flow and chain of custody research, environmental impact research, markets analysis and many other areas of information gathering and dissemination primarily for the non-profit sector.
The Borealis Centre was established in 2005 as a campaign-consulting group for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) engaged in environmental and human rights campaigning. Before turning into a non-profit organisation the Borealis Centre operated as a consultancy since April 2002

The Borealis team
Borealis staff has experience in a broad range of social and environmental issues, and many years of experience working as employees and consultants for some of the largest international NGOs in the areas of investigative research and environmental and social justice campaigning. As a result we have an outstanding record of providing organisations with critical research results and strategic campaign and research advice.
Our researchers are based in key geographical locations throughout the world and have many years of research experience as staff and contractors for a number of NGOs. Our senior researchers are based in North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific region and include forest economists, marine biologists, and other specialists. They have access to a wide network of additional researchers who work for us on a freelance basis.
The Borealis Centre structure
Borealis is guided by a seven member advisory board with representatives from a balance of large and small NGOs in different geographical areas. The board’s role is to help oversee the development of specific projects for the wider environmental and social justice movement, which will be largely funded through membership fees and foundation grants.
